Pie Night is absolutely the beginning of the festive holiday season for me. Yes I enjoy Halloween but that’s more for the kids. Pie Night really kicks the holidays into gear for me! Last year was my first year being pregnant and hosting. This year was a first again as well with a newborn in the house! EEK differently difficult!
One of these years I will catalog all the recipes I have used and post them for you. Unfortunately this is not that year. You can however follow me on Pinterest and find most of the recipes there under my Pie pin (no not what I use to roll out the dough). Other recipes are found in printed cookbooks and other online scatterings.
As a change up we had everyone vote for their favorite pie (sans the chicken pot pie, that will always be a favorite and tradition at pie night). The winners this year with 5 votes each were the very berry pie (strawberry, blueberry, blackberry and raspberry), and the caramel apple pecan cheesecake (apple turtle cheesecake).
Two pies failed this year. One was a butterscotch meringue pie. The meringue topping was AMAZING! The butterscotch never set quite right. The second was a banoffee, aka Danger Pie, aka Banana Toffee pie. This was a to die for dish and I know EXACTLY what happened here so I can make it again, there was no fixing it. I WILL be making it again, before Pie Night.
The usual suspects made the roundup with a few newbies thrown in. Cherry (bleh I really do love my husband), sweet potato streusel, German’s chocolate, pecan, Kentucky Derby, French Silk, S’mores, and possibly a few others I am forgetting.
I love Pie Night for all the joy, laughter and friends we have in our home for one night. A big thank you to everyone who came out again this year. It means a lot to me and my family to have your support and friendship, okay we know we bought it with pie, but still we appreciate you.
